Box Score Orlando, Fla. – The Nevada Wolf Pack battled hard but ultimately fell in four sets (21-25, 15-25, 25-22, 20-25) against UCF in the opening match of the UCF Tournament. Despite a scrappy comeback in the third set, Nevada's early struggles, particularly with UCF's strong blocking and offensive efficiency, proved too difficult to overcome.
The match started competitively, with Nevada showing resilience in the first set but losing 21-25. The second set saw the Wolf Pack get off to a slow start, falling behind 1-5 early. Outside hitter Gabby McLaughlin and middle blocker Bella Snyder continued to swing aggressively, though they had difficulty penetrating UCF's tall block. Nevada found itself down 10-14 before ultimately dropping the second set 15-25.
Nevada showed renewed energy in the third set, pushing UCF to a 20-22 scoreline and eventually tying the match at 22-22. Fueled by clutch plays from McLaughlin and Snyder, the Wolf Pack won the third set 25-22. McLaughlin's efforts were especially crucial in the fourth set, where her out-of-system swings and back-row attacks kept Nevada within striking distance. She recorded a key kill that brought Nevada to 20-21, but UCF closed the set 25-20, securing the victory. McLaughlin recorded 16 kills for the match and Snyder with 13.
Tehya Maeva contributed to the team with 41 assists. As well from the back line Kinsley Singleton led team digs with 20, McLaughlin with 15, and Sia Liilii with 11.
McLaughlin also contributed significantly with service aces, helping Nevada tally eight in total. The team will now regroup for their next challenge, facing Maryland tomorrow at 9 a.m., followed by a rematch with UCF at 3 p.m.
