Nevada’s late rally not enough for comeback against the Broncos

RENO, Nev. –  Three home runs and a late fifth inning rally, not enough for comeback against the Broncos, falling short in game one.
 
The Broncos quickly put up three runs in the first inning with an RBI groundout and a two RBI double heading to the bottom of the first with a 3-0 lead.
 
Boise State added two runs in the fourth and fifth inning, with back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth. The two runs in the fifth with a two RBI double, extending their lead to seven.
 
The Pack wasn't able to answer, with the Broncos holding Nevada scoreless until the fifth inning with a two-run home run from Chelie Senini. This is Senini's second collegiate home run, the first on March 4, 2022 against Seton Hall. Gabby Herrera added her own two-run home run putting up the third and fourth runs for the Pack. This home run was record breaking putting Herrera as the single season home run leader in a single season in Nevada history with 16.
 
Aaliyah Jenkins added another home run in the sixth with a solo shot, putting the Pack within two. The Pack wasn't able to capitalize with two on and two outs with the go-ahead run at the plate in the seventh, falling 7-5.
 
Tyra Clary got the start for the first game of the series. Clary went five innings, striking out two, walking three, and allowing seven runs on seven hits. All X runs were earned.
 
Carley Brown came in for relief in the sixth inning. Brown went two innings, striking out two, walking three, and allowing no runs on one hit.
 
Notables:
  • Gabby Herrera breaks the Nevada single-season home run record (16).
  • Herrera breaks the Nevada single-season total bases record (132).
  • Nevada breaks the program record for team total bases in a season (788).
  • Chelie Senini passes Britton Murdock for the tenth most games played in Nevada history (211).
  • Senini hits her first home run since March 4, 2022, vs Seton Hall, it is her second career home run.
  • Senini tied her 2023 mark of 50 runs scored, only the third individual season in Nevada history with 50 or more runs scored.
  • Senini passes Lauren Lastrapes for the sixth most total bases in Nevada history (294).
  • Haley Painter passes Sierra Mello for the fourth most hit-by-pitches in Nevada history (26), she is one HBP away from tying the single-season record (18)
  • Herrera is now tied for the seventh most hits in a single Nevada season (66).
  • Aaliyah Jenkins (36) is now one home run away from tying the Nevada career home run record (37).
  • Bridgette Gilliano's double is her sixth on the season, tying her career high.
  • Bailie Clark (9) extends her on-base streak. Senini (6) extends her hit streak.
