RENO, Nev. -Â Shortstop
Justin Acal's debut weekend with Nevada became even more memorable Monday, as he was named Mountain West Player of the Week.
Playing his first games in a Wolf Pack uniform, Acal slashed .545/.615/1.364 with two homers, a double, a triple, and six RBIs as Nevada took two of three at UC Riverside.
Four of his six hits over the weekend went for extra bases, beginning with his three-run homer in Nevada's 12-3 opening-day victory Friday. Acal, a transfer from Pittsburgh, went 2-for-3 in Saturday's contest, before rapping three hits in Sunday's 13-3 series clincher.
In the clincher, Acal came up just a double short of hitting for the cycle, driving in three runs and capping the Pack's scoring with a two-run shot. The performance capped a 6-for-11 weekend at the plate with five runs scored and a team-best 15 total bases.
Nevada (2-1) will return to action Friday at 2 p.m., beginning a three-game series at San Francisco. The Wolf Pack's scheduled Tuesday contest at UC Davis was canceled earlier Monday due to inclement weather.
