Albuquerque, N.M. - Lobo Baseball Field

WP: Ryan Oakes (2-0)
LP: Ryan Castillo (7-2)

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Nevada emphatically captured the weekend series at New Mexico with a complete 15-2, eight-inning victory Saturday.

The Wolf Pack (21-14, 10-4 MW) will look to close the series on a winning note in Sunday's 11 a.m. PT finale.

Five Wolf Pack batters posted a multi-hit game with Mikey Cruz Jr., Jayce Dobie, and Junhyuk Kwon each finishing with three hits. On the mound, Ryan Oakes held the Lobo offense in check in his first start of the season, limiting them to two runs on just five hits and striking out six while improving to 2-0.

Oakes got plenty of help from his offense, which spotted him a three-run lead thanks to a two-run double from Kwon and Sean Yamaguchi's RBI single in the top of the first. The support continued with RBI singles from Dobie and Cruz Jr. in the second, the latter's base hit extending his hitting streak to 20 games. Both Dobie and Cruz finished the game with three RBIs.

Nevada blew the game open with a four-spot in the third. Jake Harvey drove in two of his three runs on the day with a base hit to center, and, with the bases loaded, two more runs came in on a walk to Dobie and Cruz being hit by a pitch to make it 9-0.

Rominic Quiban went 2-for-4 and scored four times Saturday, as well as hitting his first homer of the season, a solo shot in the fifth. Nevada went on to get over the 10-run-lead mark with five runs in the eighth.

After New Mexico put its second run on the board with one out in the fourth, Oakes settled back in and retired the final eight batters he faced to close his day. Eric Valdez came on and struck out two over the final two innings.

Ryan Castillo fell to 7-2 on the season for New Mexico (22-15-1, 8-5-1 MW), giving up nine runs on seven hits and lasting just two innings.
