Former Mizzou goalkeeper Mia Collins joins Nevada soccer

RENO, Nev. - Former Mizzou goalkeeper Mia Collins has signed with Nevada soccer and will join the Pack for 2024, head coach Vanessa Valentine announced.

"With the departure of Emily McCue, we needed more depth in the net with Ally and Alyssa. Mia not only gives us great depth at that position, but she is someone who will be able to elevate our defense," Valentine said. "She has gone up against some great goal scorers at the SEC level and I am confident that will help her hit the ground running with Mountain West competition. We are thrilled Mia is joining our Pack in 2024."

Collins did not allow a goal in 23 minutes of action in the net during the 2023 season at Mizzou. The Sacramento, California, native got the attention of college coaches around the country with her stellar high school performance.

As a sophomore starter at St. Francis Catholic High School, Collins played an instrumental role in her team's fourth-place finish in California. Collins also helped St. Francis to a top 25 national ranking in 2020.

With Collins in the net, St. Francis captured a conference title during her junior season. In addition to excelling at St. Francis, Collins competed at the club level with San Juan SC of the Elite Club National League (ECNL).

The Pack's defense recorded five shutouts and saw goalkeeper Ally Larkin earn All-Mountain West Newcomer Team honors. Nevada's goalkeepers also collected two Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week honors in 2023.

Collins joins the Pack from Columbia, Missouri, with assistant coach and goalkeeper coach Brad Leonard, who received his master's from Mizzou in Education in 2021.

Nevada soccer is coming off one of the best turnaround seasons in program history under Valentine's first season. Winning just three games the previous season, the Pack collected their most wins since 2015 with six and qualified for its first Mountain West Tournament since 2013.
