Marloux adds Dann Nelson to Men’s Tennis Staff

RENO, Nev. – Nevada Men's Tennis Head Coach Sylvain Malroux announced Dann Nelson as a new addition to the coaching staff, Tuesday morning.

"I am extremely excited and blessed to be given the opportunity to work with Coach Malroux and the Men's Tennis program," Nelson said. "My family is looking forward to calling Reno our home. I am eager to support these exceptional players in their continued success on and off the court. Go Pack!"

Coach Malroux spoke on his new hire, saying "We are thrilled to bring coach Nelson to the Wolf Pack family. He brings an incredible amount of experience," Malroux added. "Our program and players are really fortunate to get a fantastic coach that will help us take this team to new heights."

Nelson comes to Reno one year removed from his assistant coaching position at Purdue. Nelson spent his only season in West Lafayette during the 2021-22 season with then-head coach Pawl Gajdzik.

Prior to Purdue, Nelson spent 20 years at the helm of four different tennis programs. Over the two decades he spent five seasons at UTRGV, 11 at Southern Illinois, and a pair of seasons at both Western Illinois and Westminster. In his career as a head coach, Nelson led his Westminster teams to back-to-back St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships. While at Southern Illinois Nelson collected two Missouri Valley Conference Championships, made an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009, and earned himself the MVC Coach of the Year award.

Nelson began his coaching career in 1997 as an assistant coach at Oklahoma Christian, his alma mater. During graduate school, Nelson was a part of the Central Oklahoma coaching staff as an assistant.

During his playing days, Nelson achieved a 44-5 doubles record, earning a spot in the NAIA Championships in both 1995 and 1996. Across his senior season, Oklahoma Christian earned the Sooner Athletic Conference title, the Region V team title, and the No. 4 ranking in the NAIA polls. He graduated in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in social studies.

Nelson earned his Master of Education at Central Oklahoma in 2001, during his tenure as the assistant coach of the men's team.

Nelson is married to his wife Casey of 25 years and has two daughters Khana and Nanaiya.
