RENO, Nev. -Â Nevada and San Diego State went down to the wire in Sunday's Mountain West dual, but it was the Aztecs who took the clinching point in a 4-3 win at McArthur Tennis Center.
Nevada (9-6, 0-3 MW) fought back from losing the doubles point to take three singles matches and square things at 3-3, with the dual to be decided at No. 1 between
Axel Huysmans and Aleksi Lofman.
In the end, Huysmans fought valiantly but Lofman took the final three games of the second set and outlasted his Wolf Pack counterpart in a 7-6 (3), 7-5 victory for the clinch.
Doubles also came down to the wire at No. 2. With the teams split at a match apiece, all eyes were on Court 2 as Nevada's
Rémy Trégourès and
Greg Valente slugged it out with San Diego State's (9-9, 3-0 MW) Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Imran Daniel Hazli. The match would go to a tiebreaker where the Aztec tandem captured the point with a 7-4 decision for the 7-6 win.
Trégourès bounced back in singles play with a quick 6-1, 6-3 victory over Hazli to even it up at 1-1. Nevada's additional victories came from
Rayen Hermassi at No. 4, 6-2, 7-6 (6) over Finn Willman, and
Max Contet at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4 over Brock Anderson.
Nevada next faces UNLV in a Silver State Series matchup next Saturday, April 4, at 1 p.m. in Las Vegas.
