Nevada Basketball Announces Initial Mountain West Schedule

RENO, Nev. - The Nevada Men's Basketball program has unveiled the initial version of its 2023-24 conference slate. The schedule features 18 total contests against Mountain West opponents, with the Pack slated to play nine home games and nine road games.

"We have a very demanding schedule this year," Head Coach Steve Alford said. "We are excited to have 14 non-conference games that will help prepare us for Mountain West play, and we are incredibly fortunate to be in one of the better leagues in the country. We have a lot of work to do before we get to January and begin a very difficult stretch of Mountain West games."

Season tickets are available now, starting at just $149 for adults and $99 for youth (8th grade and under). To purchase your season tickets today, visit mynevadatickets.com.

Dates for the initial version of the schedule are subject to change. National TV partners, CBS Sports and Fox Sports, will select games to broadcast by early October. Game times and dates will be solidified following the national television selection process.

Nevada is currently scheduled to begin Mountain West play on Saturday, January 6, with a trip to Fresno, California, where the team will face Fresno State in their first conference matchup of the season. Nevada owns a 37-22 all-time record against Fresno State, and the Pack has dominated the series in recent history, winning 11 of the past 12 contests against the Bulldogs, including a season sweep last year.

Following the road contest at Fresno State, the Pack will return to Reno for a two-game homestand at Lawlor Events Center. The homestretch will begin with a game against Air Force that is currently scheduled for Tuesday, January 9. In 20 contests against Air Force throughout history, Nevada owns a 17-3 record against the Falcons, and the Pack has won 13 of the past 14 games that they have played against Air Force.

Following the matchup with the Falcons, the Pack will welcome Boise State to Lawlor Events Center, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, January 13. Nevada opened up 2022-23 Mountain West play with a thrilling victory over the Broncos, as Kenan Blackshear hit an incredible driving layup with three seconds remaining to put the Pack up by one before earning a stop on defense to secure the victory. In 84 matchups throughout history, Nevada owns a 52-32 advantage over Boise State.

Nevada will hit the road for two consecutive games after taking on the Broncos, beginning with a trip to Viejas Arena to take on the defending Mountain West Champions and National Runner-ups, San Diego State, on Tuesday, January 16. Nevada split the season series with the Aztecs last year, falling at Viejas Arena before earning an impressive victory at home later in the season. Nevada is 7-22 all-time against the Aztecs.

A road contest against Wyoming is next on the schedule for the Pack, as Nevada is initially scheduled to travel to Laramie to face the Cowboys on Saturday, January 20. The Pack fell to the Cowboys in Laramie last season, and they are 8-15 all-time against Wyoming.

Nevada will then host Colorado State on January 23, prior to traveling to Albuquerque, where the team will face New Mexico at well-renowned arena "The Pit" on January 27.

The Pack defeated Colorado State, 80-69, at Lawlor Events Center last season; and, the team owns a 14-11 record against the Rams throughout history.

Last season's contest between Nevada and New Mexico in Albuquerque was one of the most exciting games throughout the college basketball season. In what was a true back-and-forth contest, in which Jarod Lucas scored a game-high 28 points while draining six 3-pointers, the Pack found themselves trailing by one with 15.4 seconds remaining. Blackshear once again came up clutch for the Pack, drilling a contested mid-range jumper that rolled around the rim before falling through the net with less than one second left, giving Nevada the impressive road victory.

Nevada will return to Lawlor Events Center to host San Jose State on Saturday, February 3, following the road game against New Mexico. The Pack defeated San Jose State in both of their regular season matchups last season, including earning a 66-51 victory over the Spartans at home. Nevada owns a 51-16 all-time record against SJSU, including winning 35 of the past 39 matchups against the Spartans.

A road-trip to Logan, Utah to face Utah State on Tuesday, February 6 awaits the Pack after their home contest against San Jose State. Nevada split the season series with Utah State last year, earning a victory at Lawlor Events Center before falling to the Aggies on the road. The Pack is 24-35 all-time against Utah State.

Nevada will have their first rematch of the season on Saturday, February 10, as they are set to welcome San Diego State to Lawlor Events Center for the second contest of the season between the two squads. Nevada defeated the Aztecs, 75-66, at home last season.

The Pack will then host New Mexico on Tuesday, February 13. Nevada's home contest against New Mexico last season was arguably just as electric as their trip to Albuquerque, as the Pack pulled out a 97-94 victory over the Lobos in a double-overtime thriller.

A trip south to Las Vegas to face interstate rival UNLV is next on the slate for the Pack, as they are currently scheduled to take on the Rebels at Thomas & Mack Arena on Saturday, February 17.

Nevada will then return home to host Wyoming on Tuesday, February 20, before entering a two-game road stretch. The road-trip will commence with a contest against San Jose State on Saturday, February 24, before concluding with a game against Colorado State on Tuesday, February 27.

The Pack will return to Reno to host Fresno State on Saturday, March 2, ahead of their final road contest of the season at Boise State on Tuesday, March 5.

Nevada will conclude the 2023-24 regular season at home against UNLV on Saturday, March 9.

Nevada returns 67.5% of its total scoring from a team that went 22-11, finished fourth in the Mountain West, and earned an NCAA Tournament bid during the 2023-24 season. The program will seek to build upon last year's success and compete for a Mountain West Championship.
