RENO, Nev. - Nevada secured a 73-63 victory over Liberty on Saturday evening at Lawlor Events Center, advancing to the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament.
With a win, the Wolf Pack improves to 17-2 at home this season, tying the 2005-06 team for the most home wins in program history.
Corey Camper Jr. scored 10 points, 10 assists, and 13 rebounds to secure the first triple-double by a Nevada player since Kenan Blackshear in 2022.
Elijah Price led the Pack offensively with a double-double, totaling 15 points and 10 rebounds. Price was joined in double figures by
Vaughn Weems (10),
Tayshawn Comer (10), and
Joel Armotrading (10).
As a team, the Pack scored 46 percent from the field, 24 percent from three, and 95 percent from the foul line. While holding the Flames to 40.4 percent shooting from the field, 23 percent from beyond the arc, and 75 percent from the line.
Nevada's bench provided a key spark, outscoring Liberty's reserves 21-3. The Pack also dominated in second-chance points (16-3) and fast-break points (8-4).
First Half:
Liberty started the game with a 6-0 run.
Elijah Price put the Pack on the board with a second-chance layup.
Nevada went on a 7-0 run to take a 13-11 lead in the game after a driving layup by
Vaughn Weems.
The Pack took control of the half, extending their lead to 25-16, forcing Liberty to call a timeout at the seven-minute mark.
The Flames cut the deficit to 29-26 after making four out of the last five field goals at the 4-minute mark.
Nevada and Liberty continued to battle, but the Pack closed out the first half on top with a 35-31 score.
Second Half:
The Pack kept the momentum, extending their lead to 11 points on a Price second-chance dunk.
The Flames went on a run to cut their deficit to a 50-48 score. They ended up gaining the lead after a three-point jumper from Colin Porter.
The Pack and the Flames continued to battle, with the Pack tying the game 58-58.
Nevada went on a 15-2 run to secure a 73-63 victory over Liberty to move on to the quarterfinals.
Up Next:
Nevada will wait for the results of the Auburn or Seattle U game and will play the winner on either Tuesday or Wednesday, March 24-25, in the quarterfinals of the NIT.
