RENO, Nev. - Zavior Alvarez has been elevated to the role of Player Development Specialist for Nevada women's basketball, head coach
Amanda Levens announced Tuesday.
Alvarez, who spent the 2022-23 season as a Graduate Assistant for the Pack, will continue to assist with the behind-the-scenes elements of the program that include operations and practices while having an increased role in recruiting.
"Zavior has continued to grow and develop in our program and I am excited that we are able to elevate him in this new role as Player Development Specialist," Levens said. "He loves the game and is eager to learn. Zavior will continue to be an integral part of our program."
Prior to arriving in Reno, Alvarez spent four years at UTEP working as an undergraduate assistant. He served as a practice player with UTEP women's basketball in 2018 before his promotion.
As a player, Alvarez was named to All-City honors at Del Valle High School in El Paso. He later played point guard at TaylorMade Prep in Pensacola, Florida, before returning to El Paso.
Alvarez graduated from UTEP in 2022 with a business degree. He is currently working on his master's degree at the University of Nevada.
"I am honored to be named the new Player Development Specialist with Nevada women's basketball," Alvarez said. "Coach Levens and her staff have provided me the opportunity to gain new knowledge and experience as a Graduate Assistant this past season. I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue to grow with this program and build lifelong relationships with every individual I come across."
Nevada returns nine letterwinners from the previous season, including three of its top four leading scorers from 2022-23 (Lexie Givens,
Audrey Roden,
Victoria Davis). The Pack will also welcome eight newcomers, including a pair of graduate transfers from Division I schools to go with six freshmen.
Nevada will begin the regular season in November and the non-conference schedule will be announced at a later date.
