Campbell, Lewis named to Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List

RENO, Nev. - Nevada wide receiver Dalevon Campbell and quarterback Brendon Lewis were each named to the preseason watch list for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, Thursday.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or currently playing at Texas Division I four-year college.
Campbell, a Missouri City, Texas, native and standout prep at Fort Bend Marshall High School, enters his second season with the Wolf Pack after transferring in from Illinois ahead of the 2022 campaign. In his debut season in Reno, Campbell appeared in all 12 games, making seven starts, finishing the season with 38 catches for 459 yards and a touchdown. Campbell came on late in the season for the Pack, making eight catches for 79 yards at San José State, before hauling in a 73-yard touchdown catch in a 120-yard performance against Fresno State, then wrapping the season with eight catches for 63 yards at UNLV. Lewis joined the Wolf Pack in January and is primed for his Nevada debut in 2023. Prior to coming to Reno, Lewis, a Melissa Texas native and prep star at Melissa High School, spent the 2020-22 seasons at Colorado. He made his collegiate debut at the 2020 Alamo Bowl, going 6-for-10 passing for 95 yards and running nine times for 73 yards, including a 44-yard score. He started all 12 games for Colorado in 2021, finishing the season with 1,540 yards on 149-for-257 passing with 10 touchdowns against just three interceptions. Lewis redshirted the 2022 campaign, appearing in just two games, including starting the season opener against TCU.
The Watch List announced Thursday will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to 5 finalists in December. They will be selected by broadcasters, commentators, journalists, fans, and previous winners. The finalists will be brought to Tyler for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet scheduled for January 10, 2024.
Nevada opens its 2023 campaign Saturday, Sept. 2, at USC. Kickoff against the sixth-ranked Trojans is set for 3:30 p.m. on the Pac-12 Network.
