Nevada ready to start the season at Cal Poly

RENO, Nev. - Nevada softball set to go on the road to start the 2023 season at the Cal Poly Tournament. The Pack will start the weekend against South Dakota, Friday at 2 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday against UC Santa Barbara at 10 a.m. and Cal Poly at 3 p.m. 

On Sunday, the Pack will face the Gauchos starting at 11:30 a.m. and the Mustangs at 2 p.m. to conclude the weekend.

All games will have live stats and audio for Cal Poly's games only. 


PLAYERS TO WATCH

The Pack will return with 11 members from last season's team, including Freshman of the Year Aaliyah Jenkins and First-Team All-Conference Chelie Senini. 

Jenkins finished the 2022 season with a .299 batting average, 144 appearances at-bat resulting in 31 runs, 43 hits, ten double-hits, and one triple-hit. The Hayward native appeared in the conference rankings and led Nevada with 13 home runs and 47 RBI during the season. 

Senini set a new school and conference record for most stolen bases in the season, with 48 stolen bases in 51 attempts. The Reno native was also the top member of the Pack offense with a .346 batting average in 179 at-bat appearances. Senini was ranked first in the conference with 62 hits and second in runs scored with 46 and was the top player of the Pack offense with three doubles, three triples, one home run, and 12 RBIs.

As a team, the Pack finished the 2022 season with a 17-35 record.
 

WELCOME TO THE SQUAD

Nevada will welcome 13 newcomers to the squad this upcoming season. Blake Craft and Tyra Clary will get help in the circle with the addition of Brooklyn Trujillo-Quintana (RHP) and Carley Brown (RHP). Newcomers, Gabby Herrera (UTL), Reagann Hoblit (UTL), Madison Clark (UTL), Haley Painter (UTL), Haylee Englebrecht (UTL), Andrea Lira (UTL), Maya Larsen (UTL), Bridgette Gilliano (IF), Maile Olsen (IF), Hannah Di Genova (1B), and Hailey Prahm(1B) will all showcase and help the Wolf Pack.

NEVADA CHOSEN FIFTH IN PRESEASON POLL

The Wolf Pack was slated fifth in the Mountain West preseason poll, which was voted upon by the league's coaches and announced on Feb. 2. 

With a total of 25 points, Boise State was chosen to win the conference. Following the Broncos is San Diego State who received 60 points and four first place vote.

UNLV (48) beat out Colorado State (36) for third, while Nevada (25) is tied with Fresno State and San José State. New Mexico (23) and Utah State (21) were placed eighth and ninth.
