RENO, Nev. – Nevada Track and Field released its indoor and outdoor schedules for the 2024 season Tuesday.
Â
"We are excited to get things rolling," said head coach
Shantel Twiggs. "We are coming off a banner year on several levels, so we will continue to keep chomping at the bit to make out mark."
Â
The 2022-23 season was arguably one of the most successful seasons in Nevada history. The Wolf Pack's run during indoor jump-started the momentum that would carry through to the outdoor season, finishing the 2023 Mountain West Indoor Championships with three school records, two conference champions, and a fifth-place finish, recording the most points ever scored at the indoor championships since joining the Mountain West (59 points). The team tied its highest finish from 2022, and the 4x400 relay team (
Halyn Senegal, Emily Costello, Lilly Gregg, and
Annalies Kalma) claimed the title for the first time in Mountain West and school history, going on to wrap the indoor season with indoor All-Mountain West honors.
Â
With a quick turnaround into the outdoor season in mid-March, the Wolf Pack did not let up, bringing the heat into the Outdoor Mountain West Championships. Fifth-yearÂ
Emily Costello earned her first individual Mountain West gold medal, the 4x400 meter relay team shattered the school record by six seconds, what would be just the second consecutive time they would break their own school record throughout the season, and the team placed sixth overall (65 points), earning five outdoor All-Mountain West honors.Â
Â
At NCAA West Preliminaries, the 4x400 relay squad qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history, once again breaking its school record for the third consecutive time by two more seconds, running the 12th fastest time in the West, and the fourth fastest time in the Division 1 Mountain Region. Finishing up the season in Austin, Texas, at the NCAA Championships, the squad finished 18th in the semifinal of the 4x400 relay.
Â
The Wolf Pack will kick off the indoor season traveling to the University of Washington Preview Invitational Jan. 13. Two weeks later, the squad will return to compete in the University of Washington Invitational Jan. 26-27.
Â
To kick off the month of February, Nevada will travel to Spokane, Wash. for the Riverfront Invitational Feb. 1-3. The week after, the Pack will compete in its final regular season meet at a traditional event on their schedule, the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Feb. 9-10.
Â
Nevada will return to Albuquerque two weeks later for the Mountain West Indoor Championships Feb. 22-24. Rounding out the indoor season, the Pack will travel east to Boston for the NCAA Indoor National Championships March 8-9.
Â
Jumping right back into action for a busy outdoor season, Nevada will see the bulk of their competitions in California, with seven in the regular season, and two in the post, finishing up in Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA National Championships. The outdoor season will look similar to last year, following the traditional format the Pack are familiar with competing.
Â
The Wolf Pack first heads to Sacramento to compete in the Hornet Invitational March 15-16. The following week, Nevada heads to San Diego for the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State, March 21-23. Next, the squad will split between the San Francisco State Invitational and the Stanford Invitational the weekend of March 29-30.
Â
After a week break from competition, the Pack will return the week of April 11-13 for a three-day event at the Bryan Clay Invitational. The next week Nevada will compete at the Mt. Sac Relays April 17-20, followed by the last regular outdoor season competition at the Fresno State Invitational Saturday, April 27.
Â
The outdoor season will conclude with three championship meets. The first is the Mountain West Championships, in which the squad will travel back to Clovis to compete in May 9-11. The NCAA West Preliminary is this year in Fayetteville, Arkansas, May 22-25. Wrapping up the outdoor season will be the NCAA Championships in Eugene, June 5-8.
