Nevada soccer competes in first MW Tournament since 2013 Sunday

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Nevada soccer is set to compete in its first Mountain West Tournament since 2013, taking on Boise State Sunday at 10 a.m. at the University of Wyoming.

The Pack finished with 13 points for the No. 6 seed, its highest finish in the Mountain West standings in the last decade. Nevada holds a 1-2 record in the Mountain West Tournament, with its lone win coming in 2012 against Boise State.

Due to projected freezing temperatures for Sunday, the match will be played at Wyoming's Indoor Practice Facility instead of the Madrid Sports Complex. Fans are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance, with all advanced ticket purchases being honored. Only 125 tickets will be sold on the day of the match.

A NEW ERA
The Pack began a new era of the program in 2023, with first-year head coach Vanessa Valentine taking the helm at Nevada. Named Nevada's eighth coach in program history on November 22, 2022, Valentine brings a wealth of experience. She helped Cal to a 10-win season and an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2022.

FLIPPING THE SCRIPT
After winning just three matches in the entire 2022 season, Nevada's new coaching staff has made an enormous impact in year one. Nevada has won six matches in 2023, the most since the 2015 season. Valentine is the first Nevada soccer coach since Dr. Melissa Price in 2010 to win at least six matches in her first season as head coach. If Nevada wins one more, Valentine will tie the most wins for a first-year Nevada head coach in program history.

A LONG TIME COMING
Nevada clinched its first bid to the Mountain West Tournament since 2013, finishing with 13 points for the No. 6 seed. The Pack are making their third Mountain West Tournament appearance overall and hold a 1-2 record in the conference's postseason. A win in Sunday's first round against Boise State would mark Nevada's second semifinal appearance in the Mountain West Tournament and its first since 2012.

EXCELLENT EMILY
Junior forward Emily Rich continues to make her mark in Nevada women's soccer history. Rich, a two-time All-Mountain West honoree, became the first player in program history to register three assists in a single match when she accomplished that mark on Sept. 4, 2022. Rich reached the top 10 in program history for single season goals (5) and points (13) Oct. 19 at Boise State. She is currently in the top 10 in program history in career goals, career assists and career points.

THE GREAT GABBY
Senior Gabby Brown has been one of the most prolific shot takers in Nevada soccer history. She set the program record for most shots in a season in 2019 with 75 as a freshman. Brown is currently second in career shots with 152 and needs just three more to take the program record.
