RENO, Nev. - Nevada soccer redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Ally Larkin was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Larkin collected her second collegiate solo shutout in Nevada's 2-0 win against the defending Mountain West champions, San Jose State, Sunday. Her six saves were one shy of matching her career-high in front of the largest Nevada soccer crowd at Mackay Stadium in program history Sunday, helping the Pack remain unbeaten at home.
In addition to her performance Sunday, Larkin played an instrumental role in Nevada's 1-1 draw against Fresno State Sept. 28. Being in the net in the last 45 minutes, the Puyallup, Washington, native came up with a critical penalty kick save in the 88th minute that allowed the Pack to finish the match with a draw.
Larkin currently leads Nevada in saves (35), save percentage (.761), and solo shutouts (2). She is the first freshman goalkeeper to record multiple shutouts in a season for Nevada since 2018 (Kendal Stovall, 3).
Larkin is the first player in program history to earn the Mountain West Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week awards in the same week. Larkin is the first Nevada freshman since 2021 to collect the Mountain West Freshman of the Week award (Emily Rich - Oct. 11).
This is the second consecutive week Nevada has had a student-athlete named to the conference's Defensive Player of the Week, with redshirt senior goalkeeper Emily McCue obtaining the award Sept. 25. Larkin's award marks the first time since 2009 Nevada has collected the Defensive Player of the Week award in consecutive weeks, back when the Pack was a member of the WAC.
The Pack go back on the road to take on Colorado College Thursday at 5 p.m.
