SUN VALLEY, Idaho – For the second straight day, Nevada was represented on the podium in the giant slalom, this time by sophomore and Norwegian native, Iver Naess, on Friday morning. Naess's overall time of 2:09.19 led the Nevada men, finishing just ahead of teammate
Ulrik Danielsen who clocked a combined time of 2:09.47, taking seventh.
"All the athletes here are up against tough conditions with the weather," said head coach Mihaela Kosi. "The Nevada men had a great first run. Unfortunately, they weren't able to follow through for the second run. The girls are resetting the focus for tomorrow."
Naess took his first run out faster than his second, the 1:03.80 only the eighth-fastest in the field. The second run, a 1:05.39 rounded out the top-10 in the field but was good enough to secure him the second-place podium finish. Danielsen's first run was third-fastest in the field, his 1:03.43 about four tenths faster than Naess. He clocked a 1:06.02 for his second run, claiming a spot in the top-10 for the Pack.
Ibon Mintegui's first run of the day (1:03.32) was second-fastest in the field, but would ultimately finish 13
th overall, while Jeger Halbjoerhus finished 21
st.
Representing the women,
Georgie Sullivan had a 13
th-place effort after her first run of 48.12.
The Pack will continue the series tomorrow for day three with the women starting first with giant slalom and the men competing in the slalom in the afternoon.
