Pack comes in second in Coeur d'Alene

RENO, Nev. - Nevada Women's Golf opened its 2022-23 campaign with a runner-up finish at the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational Tuesday.
The Pack finished the tournament at +5 (287-283-287=857) after shooting three-over as a team in Tuesday's final round. Sacramento State captured the title, at -1 (284-279-288=851).
Tuesday, Nevada closed to within as close as three strokes of the Hornets, just past the turn, but could not make the final surge to take over the lead. The Pack was able to hold off host Gonzaga (289-285-286=860, +8) by three strokes for second place, thanks to Anitra Khoth and Raesa Sheikh each getting birdies on their final two holes. Khoth recorded the Pack's low round of the day, coming in at one-under 70 thanks to the final two birdies, while Sheikh's birdies got her to one-over 72 for the day.
Further cementing the depth behind 2022 NCAA Regional participants Victoria Gailey and Leah John, freshman Gabby Kano shot an even-par 71 Tuesday to match John (70-70-74=214, +1) for tied for 11th on the individual leaderboard. Kano, after an opening-round 73, went par-or-better over her final two rounds, with a 70 and 71 to finish at +1.
Gailey bagged her second eagle of the tournament with a 3 on the par-5 No. 9, as she came in at 74 for the day, and tied for 17th overall at +3 (70-72-74=216).
Khoth fought her way to a tie for 31st (74-76-70=220, +7) with her 70, Tuesday, while Sheikh climbed 20 spots and into a tie for 45th (81-71-72=224, +11) with her final-round 72.
Nevada will bring the same quintet to next week's Colonel Wolenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic, set for Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 26-27.
