LIHUE, Hawai'i - Nevada Women's Golf kicked off play in the aloha state Monday, shooting a thirteen over-par 301 to sit in eighth place through 18 holes.
Payton Lovisa led the way for Wolf Pack, posting an opening round one over-par 73. Lovisa's round was highlighted by two birdies, both coming at par-fives, and played the rest of her round relatively cleanly, making three bogies. She sits in a tie for 12th heading into round two.
Next best for the Pack were
Marina Nonaka and Coco Kolbas, who both posted first round three over-par 75's. Nonaka was able to find some birdies throughout the round, notching one on the front nine and two on the back. Offsetting those birdies were four bogies and a double, something Nonaka will look to clean up tomorrow. Kolbas opted for more pars in round one, spreading thirteen throughout her card. One birdie and four bogies tallied to a three over-par total, placing the pair in a tie for 24th.
Amy Na carded the final counting score for Nevada on the day, posting a six over-par 78. Na tallied two birdies on the round but struggled to keep the bogies off the card, making four and two doubles. Na will look to clean up her card tomorrow, sitting in 43rd place.
Rounding out the Wolf Pack starting five was freshman
Zurich Kanokpornvasin who posted an opening round 85 (+13). Kanokpornvasin did manage back to back birdies on holes one and two to highlight the round, but will look for cleaner play tomorrow, sitting in a tie for 71st.
