COEUR d'ALENE, Idaho -Â Another solid day at the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational Monday put Nevada Women's Golf into a strong place headed into the final round.
As a team, the Pack improved four strokes on Sunday's opening round, finishing the second round one-under (283). The day got the Pack (287-283=570, +2) into a tie for second with Oral Roberts on the team leaderboard, seven strokes back of leader Sacramento State.
Individually,
Leah John continued her strong season debut, coming in at one-under 70 for the second-straight day. On the individual leaderboard, John (70-70=140, -2) ended the day where she started it, tied for sixth. Headed into Tuesday's final round, John is four strokes back of leader Davina Xanh of Cal State Fullerton.
John opened her second round with two-straight birdies, but gave the strokes back with a double bogey 7 at No. 9. After a par at No. 10, John rebounded, carding three-straight birdies to get to -4 and a share of the lead. But bogeys at Nos. 15 and 18 left her at -2 for the tournament.
Victoria Gailey came back from a slow start to post a strong finish for the second day in a row. After going out at two-over for the round, and falling to four-over with a double bogey on No. 11, Gailey roared back. She birdied the par-3 12th, and went on to birdie Nos. 15 and 17 to come in at one-over 72 for the day, and back to even par for the tournament, good for a tie for 12th.
Freshman
Gabby Kano's collegiate debut continued to progress well, as she carded a one-under 70 to match John for the Pack's low round. Kano, tied for 15th at +1 (73-70=143), was steady for much of the day, carding three birdies against just two bogeys, with 13 pars.
Raesa Sheikh came back strong after an opening-round 81 Sunday, firing an even-par 71 Monday. Her 71 helped the Pack finish the day under par as a team, as she birdied the par-3 third on her final hole.
Anitra Khoth rounded out the group with a 76, featuring a birdie on the par-13 12th.
Tuesday's final round will go off with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, with the Pack quintet grouped with the other teams in the top four (Sacramento State, Oral Roberts, Gonzaga).
