RENO, Nev. - Nevada Men's Golf, under first-year head coach Trake Carpenter, opens its 2022-23 campaign Monday morning, teeing off at the USF Invitational in San Francisco.
Carpenter begins his first season at the Wolf Pack helm, in 2022-23. Two seasons ago, Carpenter led Denver to a Summit League title and NCAA Regional appearance.
His first Nevada lineup will consist of four returners in Peyton Callens, Trey Davis, Tom Patterson, and Connor Motherway, along with Hawai'i Pacific transfer Keita Okada.
Callens and Davis return from a Pack squad that qualified for the NCAA Stockton Regional last season. Davis finished the event +1 after rounds of 73-71-73, while Callens was at one-under through the first two rounds before finishing +3. Each golfer played 36 rounds for the Pack in 2021-22, with Callens finishing with a stroke average of 71.67 and Davis 72.08.
Motherway played 12 rounds last season, averaging 74.67 strokes per round, and posting a top finish of third at the season-opening Gene Miranda Invitational last September.
Patterson played on three tournaments for the Pack last season, averaging 76.70 strokes per round.
Okada, a junior, spent his first two seasons at Hawai'i Pacific. There, the Tokyo native earned a slew of honors, capturing PacWest Championships medalist honors twice, being named PacWest Golfer of the Year in 2021-22, and earning the conference's Freshman of the Year award in 2020-21.
Okada played in 11 tournaments last season, including the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional, where he fired rounds of 73-73-71. For the season, he had a stroke average of 72.07.
Monday's groups will tee off at 8:30 a.m. in a shotgun start, and play 36 holes. Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8 a.m. start, with the final group set to tee off at 10:34 a.m.
Along with the Wolf Pack, the rest of the 10-team field features host San Francisco, BYU, Little Rock, LMU, Saint Mary's, San Diego, Santa Clara, Seattle University, and UC Davis.
The USF Invitational tees off a five-tournament fall slate for the Pack, which includes the Wolf Pack Classic, Oct. 10-11, in Reno. Nevada will also compete at the Husky Invitational (Sept. 19-20), Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational (Oct. 3-4), and the Saint Mary's Invitational (Oct. 31-Nov. 2).
