Pack in contention after opening round at Stockton Regional

STOCKTON, Calif. - Nevada Men's Golf ended Monday's opening round of the NCAA Stockton Regional tied for 10th at +3.
The Pack is logjammed among seven teams separated by just four strokes, vying for the fifth and final qualifying spot for NCAA Championships. Nevada, tied with Washington for 10th after an opening-round 291, is just four back of LSU and Liberty, which are tied for fifth, two back of seventh-place Abilene Christian, and one behind Oregon and UC Davis in a tie for eighth.
Stanford leads the 14-team field at 10-under (278), a stroke ahead of second-place Arizona State. Four players are tied atop the individual leaderboard at -4: Henry Shimp and Barclay Brown of Stanford, Jose Luis Ballester (Arizona State), and Jackson Rivera (USC).
The Pack teed off at No. 10 Monday, and will do so again in Tuesday's second round, beginning at 8:55 a.m. from The Reserve at Spanos Park.
Nevada did well to recover from an opening nine holes in which none of the Pack quintet was individually under par, with only A.J. Lintunen at even par. The Pack's four scoring golfers on the day, Lintunen, Quim Vidal Mora, Peyton Callens, and Trey Davis, each shot even-par or better over their final nine holes, led by a two-under 34 from Mora. That helped the Pack gain two strokes and wedge itself firmly into contention by the end of the round.
Lintunen led the Pack quintet on the day with an even par 72, carding two birdies against two bogeys. Mora sank three birdies over his final nine holes, fighting back to +1 for the day, while Callens also came in at 73, playing even par over his final nine. Davis was also even par over the final nine holes, and was one of three Pack golfers to tally a team-high four birdies for the day.
Michael Sarro finished the day at +7 to round out the group.
