Nevada opens season at UCLA tournament

WHAT'S ON THE AGENDA?
  • Nevada heads to Los Angeles, Calif. for the UCLA Tournament on Feb. 11-13
  • The Pack faces UC San Diego and #3 UCLA on Friday, a double-header against CSUN on Saturday, and will close the weekend on Sunday against LMU. 
  • Nevada's game against UCLA will be live-streamed.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Nevada concluded last season with an overall record of 24-16. 
  • The Pack finished conference play with a 16-8 record.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
  • Chelie Senini – Named First Team All-Mountain West in 2021. Was ranked second in the Mountain West and first on the Pack with 51 hits. Ranked second in the Mountain West and first on Nevada with 23 stolen bases. Ranked fifth in the conference and second on Nevada in batting average (.347), first on the Pack and sixth in the Mountain West in runs scored 32. Had 158 plate appearances, the third-most in the Mountain West. In 2021, recorded 15 multi-hit games, including five games with three or more hits. Registered a .961 fielding percentage with 46 putouts and three assists.
  • Lauren Gutierrez – In 2021, was named MW Player of the Week on Feb. 23 and March 23. Gutierrez, propelled Nevada offensively with a .352 batting average, 44 hits, 42 RBI, seven doubles and five home runs, was ranked fifth in the MW in batting average and sixth in hits. Played a prominent role for the Wolf Pack defense at short with 66 assists and 61 putouts. Paced Nevada with a .560 slugging percentage.
NEVADA IS HOME
  • The Wolf Pack has discovered it doesn't need to look far in order to find players that best fit its program as 7 players of the 2022 roster is from the Northern Nevada region.
  • Senini, along with Jessica Sellers and Bella Kordonowy are locals returning to the Pack and looking to continue to create an impact on the team.
NEWCOMERS NEVADA CHOSEN FIFTH IN PRESEASON POLL
  • The Wolf Pack was slated fifth in the Mountain West preseason poll, which was voted upon by the league's coaches and announced on Feb. 3. The Pack finished third in  the Mountain West last year.
  • With a total of 57 points and five first place votes, UNLV was chosen to win the conference. Following the Rebels is San Diego State who received 57 points and three first place vote.
  • Fresno State (43) beat out Boise State (43) for third, after receiving one vote for first place while Nevada (42) edged out Colorado State (35), New Mexico (17), San Jose State (15) and Utah State (15). 
WHAT A RIDE IT WILL BE
  • Nevada's 52 game slate includes five away tournaments and 24 conference games in the season. The Pack will have 14 home games, including two home non-conference doubleheader games, and 12 away games in the conference schedule. 
  • Nevada also will take on two opponents, UCLA (3rd) and Fresno State who were receiving votes in the USA Today preseason poll and ESPN.com poll. Both teams also participated in the NCAA postseason tournaments last season. 
UP NEXT
  • Following this tournament, the Pack will hit the road to Melissa, Texas to play at the North Texas tournament on Feb. 18-20.
  • The Pack will face Abilene Christian and Montana twice, and North Texas.
