Gailey earns second-straight Mountain West Golfer of the Month

RENO, Nev. - For the second-straight time, Nevada fifth-year golfer Victoria Gailey claimed the Mountain West's Golfer of the Month honor, Friday.

On the strength of tournament wins at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational (Oct. 3-4) and The Clash at Boulder Creek (Oct. 23-25), Gailey earned the Mountain West's top honor for October, after sharing the honor for September.

Gailey's October victories stretched her tournament title streak to three (including Sept. 26-27's Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic), making her just the second golfer in program history to own a streak as long (Angie Yoon captured four-straight titles in 1999-2000).

Friday's honor is Gailey's third such from the Mountain West, as she also has a golfer of the week claim under her belt from March 2021.

At the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, Gailey birdied her final hole of the tournament to force her way into a three-golfer playoff. There, she birdied the opening hole to capture the victory, and finished the tournament at -3 (72-71-70=213).

A week later, at The Clash at Boulder Creek in Henderson, Gailey played two bogey-free rounds, culminating in a final-round 67 which vaulted her into the lead. In that final round, Gailey was in a three-way tie with teammates Leah John and Anitra Khoth on the back nine, before carding birdies at Nos. 13, 15, and 16 to pull away and finish at -9 (70-70-67=207) for a two-stroke win.

Gailey played all six of her rounds at even-par or better for the month, with just one (the opening round of the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational) being even par.

Her 67 on the final day also contributed to Nevada's team score of 273 for the final round, setting the program's single-round record low and eclipsing the month-old mark of 274 set at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic.

Nevada, ranked No. 62 in Golfstat's most recent national rankings, wrapped its four-tournament fall season with two titles (Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic, The Clash at Boulder Creek), and four top-three finishes (second at the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational, third at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational). Individually, Gailey captured three titles, while John posted three top-10 finishes, just missing out on four with a T-11 finish at the season-opening Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational.

The Pack resumes its season in February, at the Mountain Classic Match Play in Palm Desert, Calif., from Feb. 13-14.
