The Clash at Boulder Creek
Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 23-25, 2022
Henderson, Nev. - Boulder Creek GC
Par 72 - 6,309 yards
HENDERSON, Nev. -Â Nevada Women's Golf closed the finest fall season in program history Tuesday, sweeping to the team and individual titles at The Clash at Boulder Creek.
Victoria Gailey captured her third-consecutive title, shooting a final-round 67 to top the leaderboard at -9 (70-70-67=207) and lead a Wolf Pack 1-2-3 podium.
Anitra Khoth also shot a 67 Tuesday, moving into second place at -7 (71-71-67=209), while
Leah John came in at 71 for the second-straight round to finish tied for third at -6 (68-71-71=210).
The win makes Gailey the second Wolf Pack women's golfer to claim three-straight titles. Angie Yoon captured four titles in a row in 1999-2000.
By the turn, Gailey, Khoth, and John were tied for the lead at -7, before Gailey's birdies at Nos. 13, 15, and 16 helped her pull away from the lead pack.
Gailey played her second bogey-free round of the tournament. Entering the day a stroke off the pace, the quickly moved past John and Idaho's Yvonne Vinceri with birdies at Nos. 2 and 3. John birdied No. 4 to move back into a share of the lead, then rebounded from a bogey at No. 9 to pull even again with Gailey following a birdie at No. 11.
Khoth, meanwhile, stalked her teammates' rise up the leaderboard with under-par golf of her own. Birdies at Nos. 3, 6, 7, and 10 got her to within a stroke of the lead, and a birdie at the par-3 No. 12 made it a three-way tie between the Nevada teammates.
Gailey's late birdies got her to -9, and a two-stroke lead, but Khoth birdied another par-3, at No. 17, to get within a stroke with two holes to play. Khoth would bogey her final hole, the par-4 No. 1, to close the tournament as runner-up.
Freshman
Gabby Kano gave the Pack four top-10 finishes, shooting a 68 Tuesday to finish eighth at -3 (75-70-68=213). For the day, Kano and Khoth led the Pack with six birdies apiece.
The quartet's countable scores for the team round came out to -15, with the 273 eclipsing the month-old program record of 274 set at the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic in late September. Nevada's final score at -25 (284-282-273=839) gave it a 16-stroke victory over the field, with Long Beach State (-9) finishing runner-up.
Kaitlin Fleiner rounded out the Pack lineup with a 76, while
Raesa Sheikh, competing as an individual, carded a 78.
Nevada wrapped its four-tournament fall season with two titles (Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic, The Clash at Boulder Creek), and four top-three finishes (second at the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational, third at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational). Individually, Gailey captured three titles, while John posted three top-10 finishes, just missing out on four with a T-11 finish at the season-opening Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational.
The Pack resumes its season in February, at the Mountain Classic Match Play in Palm Desert, Calif., from Feb. 13-14.
