ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Nevada men's golf team's 2021 season has drawn to a close as the Wolf Pack finished out of the top five and in 11
th at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional.
The Wolf Pack needed to go very low in Wednesday's final round to have a chance at jumping into the top five and advancing to NCAA Nationals. Nevada carded a 3-over par team score of 291 on Wednesday to finish the tournament at 4-over and in 11
th in the 14-team field. There were three Mountain West teams entered into this regional with none of the three advancing. New Mexico was the highest finishing MW team as the Lobos tied for seventh at 8-under par. The top five teams advancing out of this regional include No. 22 Texas Tech, which won the event at 26-under, No. 12 Arizona State, Oregon State, No. 1 Oklahoma and San Diego.
Nevada got solid and consistent play all event long from senior
Brendan MacDougall, who finished in sole possession of ninth place in the 75-player field. MacDougall went 70-70-69 between the three rounds to finish at 7-under par and collect the Pack's only top 10 individual finish. For the week he totaled 18 birdies, which led the entire field.
The Pack had two other seniors entered in the regional and playing their last event for Nevada as
Sam Meek tied for 40
th and
Sam Harned tied for 55
th. Meek, who posted the best Wolf Pack round of the tournament with a 5-under 67 on Monday, finished at 3-over par after a 75 yesterday and a 77 in the final round. Harned shot a 3-over 75 on Wednesday to finish at 7-over par for the tournament. Junior
Trey Davis tied for 51
st place at 6-over, and fellow junior
Peyton Callens tied for 61
st but put together his best round of the event with an even par 72 on Wednesday.
Ryan Hall of South Carolina, the fifth ranked player in Division I men's golf, won the individual side of this regional at 11-under par. With South Carolina not advancing as a team, Hall will advance on his own as an individual.
