RENO, Nev. – Wasting no time to get back to competition, the Nevada men's golf team will head to Stanford this week to participate in The Goodwin.
The three-day, 54-hole event begins this Thursday with the first 18 holes from Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif., which will play at a par 70 at 6,727 yards. The Goodwin, formally known as the United State Intercollegiate, has a rich history since its start in 1968. Tournament-host Stanford has claimed 16 team victories and 16 individual titles at its event, the most of any program in each category, including a win in the last Goodwin event in 2019.
This is an event the Wolf Pack is more than familiar with as Nevada has competed at The Goodwin in four of the last five years, with last year's event being canceled. The Pack's best finish during that four-year stretch was a tie for ninth in 2019 in an always stacked field. The field this year will be no different as 35 teams are scheduled to participate, including six top 50 programs in the nation. No. 5 Arizona State will be the highest ranked team in the field this year, and joins No. 15 Pepperdine and No. 19 SMU as the three top 25 programs scheduled to compete.
The Wolf Pack is getting right back to it as there will only be four days between the start of the Goodwin and the team's last event. Nevada placed 13
th over the weekend at the highly competitive National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. and wrapped up competition at that event this past Sunday. This week head coach
Jacob Wilner will send a similar lineup from the NIT to the Goodwin, with
Michael Sarro replacing
Tom Patterson. Along with Sarro, seniors
Sam Harned,
Sam Meek and
Brendan MacDougall and junior
Trey Davis will all tee it up for the Pack.
Live scoring for the entire tournament will be available on Golfstat.com.
