SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Nevada women's golf team wrapped up competition at the Gunrock Invitational on Tuesday, recording a 10
th place finish.
The Wolf Pack was on pace to post its best round of the tournament, but a few big numbers late in the round gave Nevada a team score of 301. For the tournament Nevada shot scores of 295-303-301 to finish at 35-over par and in 10
th place in the 11-team field. Stanford cruised to the team title as the Cardinal finished at 26-under par, 14 shots better than runner-up Sacramento State.
Junior
Victoria Gailey had a rough second round yesterday, but rebounded nicely in today's final round as she carded a season-low 2-under 70. Her under par round bumped her up 12 spots on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 31
st place. Gailey posted a near perfect final round with just one bogey on her scorecard, three birdies and 14 pars.
Nevada had two record a tie for 36
th in the field of 65 as sophomore
Leah John and freshman
Kathleen Keomahavong both notched that placing. Keomahavong was entered into the event as an individual however, which means her score did not count towards the team score. The freshman fired a 1-over 73 on Tuesday, a season-low round. Sophomores
Kayla Nocum and
Anitra Khoth also tied for position at the event as they both notched a tie for 49
th at 13-over par. Junior
Maddy Zunino finished in 63
rd but posted a 4-over 76 on the final day, her best round of the tournament.
Rachel Heck of Stanford won the individual title by one stroke over Tess Blair of Sacramento State.
Nevada will be back in action March 15-16 at the BYU Invite in St. George, Utah.
