SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore
Leah John led the way for the Nevada women's golf team as the Wolf Pack completed the first 36 holes of the Gunrock Invitational.
The Wolf Pack sits in ninth place in the 11-team field after two rounds of play in Sacramento. Nevada shot a team score of 295 in Monday's opening round and followed that up with a 303 in round two for a total score of 598 (+22). The Pack sits ahead of Northern Colorado and Santa Clara with one round remaining. Stanford had an incredible day on the golf course, shooting back-to-back 10-under par round. The Cardinal leads the field at 20-under, 13 shots better than San Jose State in second.
Sophomore
Leah John led the way for the Wolf Pack on day one as she carded an even par 72 in the morning and a 2-over 74 in the afternoon. She is 2-over for the tournament and in a tie for 22
nd in the 65-player field. John's opening round 72 is one stroke shy of tying her career-low round. She avoided anything worse than bogey on her scorecard on Monday and collected four birdies.
Freshman
Kathleen Keomahavong and sophomore
Kayla Nocum are both tied for 37
th place at 6-over par, but Keomahavong is entered this week as an individual so her score will not count towards the team score. Junior
Victoria Gailey and sophomore
Anitra Khoth both are at 7-over par as we head into the final round and are tied for 43
rd place. Junior
Maddy Zunino rounds out the Pack lineup tied for 64
th.
There are currently 19 players at par or better through two rounds and a two-way tie atop the leaderboard. Antonia Malate of San Jose State and Stanford's Rachel Heck are both at 9-under par after 36 holes and tied for the individual lead.
