LA QUINTA, Calif. – In a crowded and talented field, the Nevada men's golf team is currently tied for seventh after round one of The Prestige.
The Wolf Pack sits in a three-way tie for seventh in the 24-team field, ahead of top 25 teams such as Texas Tech and Stanford. Nevada combined for a team score of 287 (+3) on Monday and is tied with USC and tournament host UC Davis. No. 10 Arizona State leads overall after day one at 8-under par, but the Wolf Pack is just two shots back of jumping into the top five.
Senior
Sam Harned led the way for Nevada in round one after firing a 2-under 69. Harned was able to avoid anything worse than a bogey on his scorecard on Monday and collected five birdies throughout his round. He will enter round two tied for seventh and just five shots back of the individual leader. Junior
Trey Davis also posted a solid performance in his 2021 debut, shooting an even par 71. Davis rebounded nicely after a rough end to his first nine holes, playing his second set of nine at 3-under. He is currently tied for 25
th in the 120-player field.
Freshman
Tom Patterson carded a 2-over 73 in his collegiate tournament debut, which puts him in a tie for 52
nd place. Newcomer
Brendan MacDougall's 3-over 74 in round one has him tied for 69
th, while senior
Sam Meek shot a 5-over 76 today and is currently tied for 94
th place. Junior
Peyton Callens is also competing this week in La Quinta, but at a separate event for those entered as individuals. He carded a 1-over 73 and is tied for 26
th in his event.
Nevada will continue play at The Prestige on Tuesday with the second round of action.
