ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – As the Wolf Pack gets to the halfway point of the indoor season, its success continues as it ties for first place in the New Mexico Team Open.
The Pack wrapped up its successful day with 31 total team points, which was good enough for a first place tie with Washington State. A day that saw two new Nevada all-time placements and three first place finishes.
Junior Karoline Sauer started the day off right with a first place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.83. The junior ended up tying with Stephanie Cho from Washington State but after reviewing the finish further, Sauer just beat Cho by 0.002 seconds. Sauer's time was not only good enough to beat her personal best (55.81), but also put her in second all-time at Nevada in the event.
The 400m dash also saw success from two other Pack athletes. Sophomore Emily Costello earned a fourth place finish in the even with a time of 55.53, while junior Lauren Green finished with a personal best 56.78 which earned her a sixth place finish.
After getting on the list last week at the Ed Jacoby Invitational, freshman Rayven Nealey improved her distance in the triple jump from 11.85m to 11.93m today. Nealey's distance was good enough to move her up to eight all-time at Nevada, passing Brooke Wilson and her 2001 distance of 11.86m. In the meet, her distance was good for a fifth place finish.
Two other Pack athletes joined in on the success with first place finishes. Junior Eliza McCall won the 600m run with a time of 1:33.79, a time which only beat out the second place runner by 0.03 seconds. Junior Hiley Dobbs ran past her competition in the 3000m run with her time of 10:06.32. Dobbs' impressive first place finish was 20 seconds faster than the second place runner.
When it came to field events, senior Gaby Palmer saw another successful meet with her second place finish in the pole vault with her distance of 4.10m. For sophomore Grace Wills, her distance of 14.58m earned her a personal best in the weight throw and a fifth place finish.
Lastly, the distance medley team that included Erika Robtoy, Shelby Garrison, Eliza McCall, and Mikayla Shults finished the day with a second place finish and a time of 12:17.82 in the event.
The Pack will take a week off before it travels to Boise for the third time to compete in the Boise State Challenge on Feb. 14-15.
