RENO, Nev. – The Nevada men's basketball team will put its 3-0 start to the 2020-21 season to the test Wednesday night as it plays host to the USF Dons at Lawlor Events Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Â
There is no television broadcast for the game, but it will be live-streamed on the Mountain West Network, available at NevadaWolfPack.com. John Ramey and Len Stevens will have the radio call on the Wolf Pack Radio Network, with the broadcast beginning on the flagship 94.5 FM at 5:30 p.m. in Northern Nevada. The broadcast is also available via the TuneIn mobile app.
Â
Nevada moved to 3-0 Monday night with a 70-58 victory over Pacific in the home opener at Lawlor.
Zane Meeks poured in 18 points and ripped 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season, and
Grant Sherfield continued his hot start to the season with 17 points.Â
Â
USF enters the game with a 2-2 mark but the Dons scored a signature victory last week by up-ending then-No. 4 Virginia at a multi-team event in Connecticut.
Â
Sophomore guard
Grant Sherfield has been a rock for the Pack through the first week of the season as the Wichita State transfer is leading the team with 16.7 points per game. He's been sharp from behind the arc, hitting 5-of-9 three-pointers in three games.
Â
Desmond Cambridge Jr. has battled foul trouble at times but the athletic wing is scoring 11.0 points per game.
Â
But where Nevada has made its mark as a team is on the defensive end. The Wolf Pack is allowing just 57.3 points per game thus far, which has led to a scoring margin of nearly 10 points per game.
Â
Nevada is second in the Mountain West so far in both team defense and field goal percentage defense, yielding just 30.8 percent shooting from the floor by its three opponents. The Pack is allowing just 23.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc, which also ranks second-best in the league.
Â
This game is the first of back-to-back meetings between the teams as Nevada will travel to the Bay Area this weekend to play the Dons in San Francisco at 1 p.m. The unique scheduling set-up of back-to-back games was put in place as the start of the season was delayed until late November due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As it stands now, however, it is a bit of a precursor to what the Mountain West conference slate will have a similar feel with back-to-back games against each conference school, albeit in the same location.
