RENO, Nev. – The Nevada women's basketball team remains on the road this weekend as it travels to Albuquerque, N.M. to face the Lobos of New Mexico this Saturday, Jan. 25 at 12 p.m. PT from Dreamstyle Arena.
Nevada is coming off of a heartbreaker at UNLV Wednesday night where it fell on a last second jumper by the Lady Rebels, 66-64. Despite the loss the Wolf Pack showed a ton of resiliency in that game. Nevada trailed by 10 at halftime and by 15, its largest deficit of the game, in the third quarter. The Pack used a 17-1 run midway through the third to grab its first lead since the opening quarter and get back in the ball game. Senior
Marguerite Effa was fantasitic in the game, scoring a game-high 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Effa was perfect from the free throw line as well, hitting 6-of-6.
New Mexico is also coming off of a close loss as it dropped a four-point decision at San Jose State Wednesday night, the league's current second place team. The Lobos began the season 6-0, but are just 4-6 in their last 10 games and 2-6 in league action. New Mexico has three players averaging points in double figures, led by Ahlise Hurst who is averaging 13.7 points per game. Hurst is the team's top 3-point shooter having made 66 triples this season.

SERIES HISTORY
Nevada and New Mexico have squared off in women's basketball 13 times in program history, with the Lobos ahead in the all-time series 10-3. The Wolf Pack has not beaten the Lobos in eight games, with its last win coming on March 1, 2014, a 60-55 win at The Pit. Added to that, the Lobos are the only team remaining in the Mountain West that head coach
Amanda Levens has not beaten during her tenure at Nevada.

Marguerite Effa has really picked up her play as of late. The Los Angeles, Calif. native had the game of her career vs. SJSU. Effa totaled 31 points and 15 rebounds, both of which are career highs, to post her second double-double of the season. She was nearly unstoppable as she connected on 71.4 percent of her shots, hitting 15-of-21, setting career highs there too. Effa is now just the fifth player in the Mountain West this season to score 30+ points in a single game. She is the only player to score 30+ points in a single game and record a double-double while doing so. Effa has now scored in double figures in five consecutive games and is averaging 19.8 points per game in that span.
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
The Wolf Pack concluded its non-conference schedule by defeating Cal Poly 71-40, marking its largest margin of victory of the season and largest since February of 2015. The 40 points surrendered to the Mustangs is tied for seventh-fewest allowed by an opponent in program history. Nevada posted a 7-4 record in its non-league slate, marking its second winning record in non-conference play in two of the last three years. During that stretch the Pack outscored its opponents by an average of 5.9 points per game and outrebounded teams by 1.5 rebounds per game.

The Wolf Pack has been one of the best teams in the Mountain West in terms of sharing the basketball. Heading into Wednesday's game at UNLV, Nevada ranks fifth in the conference in assists per game, averaging 14.00 per game. DON'T FORGET ABOUT IMANI
Sophomore
Imani Lacy has quietly been one of the most consistent Wolf Pack players through 19 games this season. She returned to the floor for the first time since Dec. 21 to help Nevada earn a 69-60 win over Utah State, scoring 12 points in her return. Lacy currently ranks third on the team averaging 10.4 points per game. She has really improved her free throw shooting and shot blocking this season as well as she ranks ninth in the MW in free throw percentage (70.2) and is second in blocked shots per game (1.53 bpg).
UP NEXT: A WEEK AT HOME
After a pair of road games this week, the Wolf Pack will return home to Lawlor Events Center next week for two Mountain West contests. Nevada will begin its second run through of league opponents as it welcomes in Colorado State on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. and Boise State next Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. The Pack lost earlier this month to both the Rams and the Broncos on the road and will be seeking revenge this time around. Nevada will be celebrating Black History Month on Wednesday and National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Saturday.
