RENO, Nev. – The Nevada women's golf team will open the 2019-20 season on Monday at the Dick McGuire Invitational, hosted by New Mexico.
"I am excited to begin the season at the McGuire this weekend against a really strong field," said head coach
Kathleen Takaishi. "We've had a few great weeks of practice and the team looks really good. The three new freshmen have pushed the returners to improve their game. It will be fun to watch the team compete and see where we stand and what we need to work on to continue to get better."
This marks the first time in eight years that the Wolf Pack will not open the season at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Colorado. Instead, Nevada will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete in the Lobos' fall event, the Dick McGuire Invitational hosted at the Championship Golf Course on the UNM campus. The 54-hole tournament begins on Monday with the first 36 holes and will conclude Tuesday with the final 18.
The field at this event features 16 teams, including six Power 5 programs. Pepperdine, which is also set to compete in Albuquerque, enters the week ranked 25
th in the nation to start the season by Golfweek. Nevada will also get an early look at how it stacks up in the Mountain West as it will go up against four league opponents in Colorado State, UNLV, San Diego State and tournament host New Mexico.
Takaishi, who enters her seventh season, will send four returners and one newcomer to the season-opening event. Teeing it up for the Pack next week will be seniors

Katy Rutherford, sophomores
Victoria Gailey and
Danni Ujimori and freshman
Leah John. Gailey will play at the No. 1 spot next week after a solid rookie campaign where she was named second team All-Mountain West and set the program's single season scoring record.
