TUCSON, Ariz. – Junior
Sam Meek is in the hunt at the 2019 Mountain West Men's Golf Championship, while the Wolf Pack is in a tie for seventh place with 18 holes remaining.
The Wolf Pack carded a 5-under par team score of 283 for the second consecutive day to sit at 10-under after 36 of the 54 holes of action. Nevada is currently tied with Wyoming for seventh, but is just three shots out of getting into the top five. Colorado State leads the field after the second round at 22-under par, two shots ahead of three-time defending champion UNLV.
Meek enters the final round in the hunt for the individual championship at 6-under par, just three shots back of Sean Carlon of New Mexico. He fired a 6-under 66 on Saturday, which is tied for the second-lowest round of the entire tournament. Meek's 66 allowed him to jump 24 spots on the leaderboard and into a tie for fifth. During his round, Meek collected six birdies and made an eagle on the par 5 15
th to propel him up the leaderboard.
Nevada has two golfers in a tie for 22
nd in the 55-player field with juniors
Tony Gil and
Stephen Osborne sharing the position. Gil carded a 1-over 73 on the day, while Osborne fired an even par 72. Both Gil and Osborne sit at 2-under par for the championship. Sophomore
Joey Vrzich also finished his second round with an even par 72 and enters the final round in a tie for 30
th at even par overall. Junior
Sam Harned is tied for 41
st at 3-over after shooting a 1-over 73 today, his best round of the two days.
