RENO, Nev.  – The Nevada women's track and field team travels to Albuquerque, N.M. this week for the Mountain West Indoor Championships. The Wolf Pack will look to cap off an indoor season that has seen several strong individual performances in a variety of events.
Â
"I suspect the 2019 Mountain West Indoor Championships to be filled with many amazing performances, from Nevada all-time lists to school records to NCAA Indoor Championship marks this weekend," said head coach
Shantel Twiggs. "This will be our biggest test yet and together we plan to put together the best meet of 2019."
Â
Leading the way for the Pack is sophomore
Nicola Ader, who enters the meet as the defending pentathlon champion. Ader is also chasing a spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The native of Affolterbach, Germany currently sits at 18th in country in the pentathlon with a score of 3,894 which is just 35 points behind the 16th spot. The top 16 in each event advance to the NCAA Championships. Her score is currently the top in the Mountain West.
Â
Ader is also in the top 30 of the high jump. Her height of 5' 10" (1.78 meters) is in an 11-way tie for 28th in the nation. There is currently a seven-way tie for the 14th best height in the nation at 5' 10.75" (1.80 m). Her height is second in the Mountain West, and Ader will attempt to improve on last year's seventh-place finish in the event.
Â
Joining Ader is junior
Gaby Palmer, who's school-record pole vault height of 13' 6.25" (4.12 m) is third in the Mountain West and tied for 41st nationally.
Â
The last member of the Pack to make it to the NCAA Indoor National Championships was La Tijera Avery in 2012.
Â
Last year, Nevada took 10
th in the Mountain West, led by Ader winning the pentathlon. Ader was just the second athlete to win an individual championship since Nevada moved to the Mountain West Conference, joining
Nicole Wadden. Wadden won the pentathlon in 2016. The Wolf Pack also won the distance medley relay in 2014. The Wolf Pack's best finish in the Mountain West Indoor was the 2013 season, when the team took third.
Â
The meet kicks off on Thursday with Ader competing in the pentathlon. The 60m hurdles will open up at 11 a.m. PST. Friday will feature qualifiers for track events, as well as the weight throw, long jump and pole vault finals. Saturday will conclude the meet with track finals, shot put, high jump and triple jump.
