Reno, Nev. - Nevada Track and Field continued competition at the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championshps, Friday, scoring 22 points, highlighted by
Kaja Maltaric's silver medal in the long jump. The Pack sit second in the team standings with 38 points heading into the final day of the championships.Â
The Pack high jump group put on a very strong performance, with two of the three Pack competitors scoring points.
Hazel Gaspaire highlighted the group, putting on the best performance of her collegiate career, first clearing a personal best 1.75m, then clearing 1.78m to advance to the final four, she went on to finish in fourth collecting five points for the Pack. Gaspaire's mark also ranks number six all-time.
Stina Larsson also put on a career best display, clearing 1.70m to place fifth and earn four points for the Pack.
Mary Casserly rounded out the high jump collective, clearing an indoor personal best 1.65m to finish ninth.Â
Johanna Haas kept her form up following her silver medal finish in the pentathlon yesterday, taking second place in her 60 meter hurdles heat. Haas ran a time of 8.60 which qualifies as the six seed for tomorrow's final.Â
In the 400m prelims,
Annalies Kalma was positioned in the best heat of the prelims facing New Mexico's Rebecca Grieve, both ranking in the top 15 nationally for the 400m. Kalma ran a 52.97 to qualify in second place for tomorrow's final.Â
The long jump duo of
Kaja Maltaric and
Alma Kathan put on a strong display both making their way into the finals.
Kaja Maltaric's jump of 6.07m was enough to earn a silver medal in just her second championships as a part of the Pack. That mark also now stands as the second best in Nevada history, standing her in good stead for her collegiate career.
Alma Kathan also put on a career best performance, reaching a mark of 5.96m to place fourth, her mark sits eighth all-time.Â
In the 60m dash prelims
Magdalene George ran a time of 7.46 to qualify in seventh for tomorrow's final. George will look for a time closer to her school record to find a medal in the race for the second year in a row.Â
The final event of the day was 800m, where
Kylee Denver and
Halyn Senegal ran 20th and 21st, running 2:13.85 and 2:13.87 respectively.Â
The Pack will return for a day of finals tomorrow, where the Pack will have opportunities for medals in six events. Wolf Pack action will kick off at 11:30am for the 60m hurdles final.Â
