IMPRESSIVE DEBUT
Nevada debuted to a 78-72 season-opening win Tuesday night over Saint Mary's, a team which has won 41 games in its last two seasons. The Gaels were picked fourth in the West Coast Conference preseason poll, while the Pack was picked ninth in the Mountain West. The Wolf Pack connected on 47.6 percent of its shots from the floor and was even better from beyond the arc. Nevada made 10 3-pointers in the game, shooting at a 53.3 percent clip. The victory marked the Wolf Pack's first season-opening win under third-year head coach
Amanda Levens and its first season-opening victory since the start of the 2014-15 season.
MILESTONE WATCH
Nevada has a few players who are approaching milestones, some of whom could hit those numbers Saturday afternoon against Sacramento State.
•
Imani Lacy - 12 points shy of 200
•
Essence Booker - 15 points shy of 200
SERIES HISTORY
Nevada and Sacramento State have played 29 games between them in program history, dating back to the 1981-82 season. The Wolf Pack has the upper hand in the all-time series with 18 victories and owns a 10-5 record against the Hornets at home. Entering Saturday's game, the Pack has beaten the Hornets in 12 consecutive contests.
CAPTURE THE ESSENCE
One of the many bright spots for Nevada during Tuesday's season opener was the play of sophomore
Essence Booker. Booker led the team in scoring, posting a career-high 17 points. It was an all-around balanced performance from Booker though as she added a career-best five rebounds, dished out three assists and added a steal. She connected on 7-of-13 from the field and hit three 3-pointers, a single-game career-high. Booker enters Saturday's game just 15 points shy of hitting 200 for her career.
THE SUN SETS IN THE WEST
Another solid individual performance from Tuesday's season-opening win was turned in by sophomore
Amaya West. West, who came off the bench to play 25 minutes against the Gaels, tied her career high of 14 points and was second on the Pack in scoring. She was near perfect on the night, hitting 4-of-5 from the field and made 4-of-5 from the free throw line. West added two triples during the game as well in just two attempts. All around her game was strong as she also grabbed four rebounds and added three assists, a block and a steal.

NEWCOMER IMPACT
With eight newcomers on this year's roster and just five returners, the impact of the newcomers was inevitably going to be big. That impact was felt in the very first game Tuesday night in the win over Saint Mary's. Nevada had four players score in double figures in that contest, one of whom was transfer
Miki'ala Maio. Maio, a junior college transfer from Salt Lake CC, totaled 11 points in her Division I debut, shooting 4-of-6 from the field and added three assists in her 22 minutes on the floor. Tuesday's starting five featured three newcomers, including Maio, fellow transfer
Nia Alexander and freshman
Alyssa Jimenez.
In total all eight newcomers saw time on the floor Tuesday evening. Between the eight of them they made up 34 of the team's 78 points. Senior transfer
Marguerite Effa was just two points shy of becoming Nevada's fifth double digit scorer in that game and junior college transfer
Jacqulynn Nakai stepped up and hit two 3-pointers in the contest as well.
