RENO, Nev. –With the continued aspirations to compete for a Mountain West championship, the Nevada softball team has announced its 2020 slate. The Wolf Pack is coming off of a 2019 campaign that saw a postseason berth for the third year in a row, making it to the final round of the Nevada Regional NISC tournament.
In total, Nevada has 51 games scheduled for the upcoming season, including 25 contests prior to the start of conference play with a mid-week doubleheader to give them 27 non-conference matchups. The Pack will also square up against four Power-5 opponents and seven teams that participated in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, including a game against the 2019 National Championship runner-up team, Oklahoma.
The season opens at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The three-day event starts with Nevada playing BYU and Oklahoma on Feb. 6, and continues through Feb. 8 with games against Long Beach State and Utah Valley on the seventh and a contest with Oregon on the final day of the tournament. This is the second time in three years Nevada has been invited to this tournament.
Following the trip south of the border, the Pack travels to Stockton, Calif. to participate in the Libby Matson Tournament, a two-day tournament that the Wolf Pack has competed in the last three straight years. Nevada will take on Seattle and CSUN on Saturday, Feb. 15 before taking on CSU Bakersfield and Pacific on Sunday.
The Wolf Pack heads back to California the next weekend, Feb. 21, for a Friday doubleheader in Moraga, Calif. First Nevada squares up against Utah Valley in the morning before a single game against Saint Mary's that afternoon. On Feb. 22, Nevada heads to Palo Alto, Calif. for a three-game series with Stanford that is comprised of two games on Saturday and one on Sunday, Feb. 23.
Nevada will then travel to the state of Hawaii for the Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament, hosted by Hawaii, from Feb. 27-29. The Pack will begin this three-day tournament against Oregon State on Thursday before Seattle and host school, Hawaii on Friday. The tournament wraps up with two more games against Oregon State and Hawaii on Sunday.
The Pack will compete in its final tournament of non-conference play at home, as it hosts the Wolf Pack Classic on March 6-8. Pacific, Sacramento State and Weber State will all be in attendance with the first Nevada game against Pacific on Friday. The NCAA Regional team, Weber State and the Wolf Pack will play three times this tournament with Sacramento State and Nevada meeting twice and Pacific, once.
To open up the 24-game conference season, Nevada will travel to Las Vegas for its three-game series with UNLV (March 13-15), which will be followed the next week with a home MW series with Boise State (March 20-22). Staying at home, the Pack will host a doubleheader with Santa Clara on March 24.
Nevada returns to road play at San Diego State in a three-game conference series (March 27-29) before returning home again. The Pack takes on San José State in a conference series on April 3-5 before traveling to Utah State the following weekend (April 9-11).
After its road trip to Logan, Nevada will host New Mexico (April 17-19) before traveling to the 2019 Mountain West Champions, Colorado State, in Fort Collins, Colo. on April 24. The Pack closes out the regular season with a three-game series versus Fresno State in Reno, May 1-3.
Nevada returns both of its all-conference players from a year ago, in
Sadaria McAlister and
Dallas Millwood, while welcoming six newcomers on its 2020 roster, all of whom will look to make an impact for the upcoming season.
