STOCKTON, Calif. – Following the opening round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational, Nevada men's golf senior
Sam Harned is tied for third place.
Harned carded a 3-under 69 on Monday and is five shots behind Sean Yu of San Jose State for the individual lead with 36 holes still to play. He is just one shot back of Pono Yanagi of Washington State, who currently has a hold on the runner-up spot. Harned played extremely well in the opening round, collecting three birdies and an eagle on the par 5 16
th.
As a team the Wolf Pack enters Tuesday's second round in ninth place in the 16-team field. Nevada combined for a team score of 292 on Monday and is currently 4-over par. San Jose State paces the field at 6-under par and has a four-shot lead over Long Beach State. The Spartans and 49ers are the only two teams in the field under par after 18 holes.
Senior
Sam Meek carded a 1-over 73 in the first round, placing him in a tie for 25
th. Meek totaled three birdies during his round, including two on the front nine. Fellow senior
Tony Gil collected a team-best five birdies on Monday, but ran into some trouble on a couple of holes to shoot a 2-over 74. Gil enters the second round tied for 40
th.
A pair of sophomores for Nevada are currently tied for 61
st place as
Cam Kellett and
Peyton Callens each fired 4-over rounds of 76. Kellett's score counted towards the team score, while Callens is playing this event as an individual. Rounding out the Pack golfers is sophomore
Trey Davis, who shot a 5-over 77 and is tied for 70
th place.
