RENO, Nev. – Playing its fifth and final match of its five-game road stretch, Nevada soccer (3-1-1) will battle Sacramento State (0-4-1) on the road this Friday at 4 p.m. The Wolf Pack will look to bounce back coming off its first loss of the season at Saint Mary's.
Last season, Nevada defeated the Hornets 3-2 in a double-overtime thriller. Rallying back from down two goals, the Pack tied the game and eventually netted the game winner in the 103rd minute.
The all-time series between the two schools is currently 10-5-1 in favor of the Pack.
While the Hornets have yet to win a match this season, they have outscored the Pack on goals this season 6-5. Nevada, however is only allowing 0.57 goals per game compared to the Hornets' 1.20.
A large reason for Nevada's conference-leading .0.57 goals against average is freshman
Kendal Stovall, who has only allowed three goals in five contests. She boasts two shutouts on the season and has never allowed multiple goals in one game.
The Pack will look to its young players to produce some offense, as freshmen
Payton Lieb and
Kylie Minamishin lead the team with six and three points, respectively. Lieb leads the team with three goals, which is tied for third in the Mountain West.
Nevada has outshot the Hornets so far this season, leading with a mark of 52-46. The shots on goal are nearly even, with Sacramento State edging the Pack 24-23.
A
live stream and
live stats of the match will be available during the contest. Nevada's next match will be its first in Mackay Stadium in 2018, as it faces Hawai'i on Sept. 13.
