RENO, Nev.  – The Nevada women's tennis team opens up their season on Thursday in Berkeley, Calif. for the Cal Invitational. The Invitational will feature eleven teams, including Mountain West foe Fresno State.
Â
"We have had a great start of the year with the new players adjusting really well to their new environments," said head coach
Guillaume Tonelli. "We are very excited to see where we are and show what we have been practicing for."
Â
The four-day tournament will include BYU, Cal Poly, UC Davis, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Saint Mary's, the University of San Francisco and UC Santa Barbara.
Â
At last year's tournament, several members of the Wolf Pack saw success. Sophomore
Lili Fekete paired with then-senior
Blaga Delic, going 3-0 and defeating San Francisco in the final. Senior
Marta Ruedas went 3-0 with sophomore
Anastaysha Gorbacheva, winning the ITA Blue Doubles bracket.

Â
The team welcomes two newcomers this year, with freshman
Selina Turulja and junior
Kristina Lagoda. Lagoda is a transfer from Eastern Kentucky University, where she was named to the second-team All-Ohio Valley Conference as a freshman and was part of the OVC Championship team as a sophomore.
Â
Returning for the team are a pair of seniors in
Marta Ruedas and
Adriana Gergelyova, as well as four sophomores in Fekete, Gorbacheva,
Melissa Huchet and Maria Tatarnikov. Gergelyova played primarily on court number two last year, posting eight doubles wins.
Â
The combination of new talent and returning experience will help the Pack build off of last spring's 9-9 season. The nine wins were the most for the program since the 2015 season.
Â
After Berkeley, the Pack will prepare for the ITA Regional tournament in Las Vegas. That tournament will run from Oct. 10-14. After that, the team will wrap up its fall schedule with the Santa Clara Invitational from Nov. 2-4 in Santa Clara, Calif.
