SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Nevada swimming and diving team finished second in today's double dual meet against San Diego State and Washington State. The Pack scored 142 points behind SDSU with 158 and over WSU with 134.
"We really stepped up today as a team," said head coach Brendon Bray. "We were undermanned for this competition but we swam unselfish and many of the swimmers had events back to back and to end that close to SDSU and to beat WSU was an incredible finish."
The Nevada A relay team took first in the 800-yard freestyle, 400-yard medley and the second 400-yard medley. Sophomore Donna dePolo and junior Andressa Cholodovskis competed in all of the respective relays.
"Although we had many highlights from everyone on the team the standout was Andressa who put up some times that I think would have been competitive with almost anyone in the country," continued Bray.
In the 800-yard freestyle, freshman Julia Adamczyk, dePolo, Cholodovskis and senior Caitlyn Richardson finished with a time of 7:30.23. The first 400-yard relay was won with a time of 3:47.06, swam by freshman Imogen Watson, Cholodovskis, dePolo, and Richardson. With a time of 3:57.55, the Nevada A relay of Adamczyk, Watson, dePolo and Cholodovskis came in first by almost 10 full seconds.
The young relay team in the 1500 freestyle was started by sophomore Caitlyn McHugh and followed by two freshmen in Adamczyk and Lindsey Soule finishing second with a time of 15:22.87.
"We have a bright future this season and I can't wait for our next meet," said Bray.
Next on the schedule for the Pack is two home meets in the annual pentathlon and alumni meet. Both will be taking place in Lombardi and open to the public. The pentathlon will be held on Sept. 29 at 9 a.m. PT with the alumni meet on Oct. 6 at 9 a.m. PT.
