Conference play begins for Nevada this weekend

Features matches at Boise State and Utah State

RENO, Nev. – Nevada (3-3-2) will head off to play at Boise State (6-2-0) and Utah State (1-6-1) to open Mountain West Play this weekend. The Pack wrapped up nonconference play with three wins under its belt, and posted the second-best start in program history by starting the year 3-0-1.

"I think we are doing a good job of recovering, we come out here and we train and we do what we need to do to get ready for each game," said freshman Kylie Minamishin on why the team has been successful so far. "Once we are done with one game, we are on to the next."

Through eight games, Minamishin and her fellow freshmen have shown bright for the Pack. While she has recorded a goal, an assist and ties the team-high with 14 shots, fellow freshman Payton Lieb has been just as dominant. The Ponca City, Okla. native leads Nevada this season with three goals and has also registered an assist. Two of Lieb's three goals have been game winners.

After Kathryn Yarbrough's first-career goal against Hawai'i last Thursday, it made five of Nevada's eight goals scored this season come from its freshman class.

In goal, freshman keeper Kendal Stovall has been a huge part of the Pack's defense so far. She has already posted two shutouts and recorded 36 saves this season, the fourth most in the conference.

The Pack will have its work cut out for it against the Broncos on Friday, as they will have to face the leading goal scorer in the conference in Raimee Sherle. Already with nine goals on the year, Sherley ranks tied for third in the entire NCAA in goals scored.

Utah State sits with the lowest winning percentage in the Mountain West at .143 after nonconference play, and has gone 0-4 at home on the year. Nevada sits at 2-3-1 on the road, and will try to improve that mark against the Aggies.
