RENO, Nev. – In its preseason exhibition, the Nevada soccer team defeated the Pacific Tigers 3-0 in Mackay Stadium. Sophomore Hannah Souza led the team with a goal, an assist, and two shots.

This contest was the first win since the Wolf Pack's double overtime victory over Sacramento State last season.

"It was a great team win," said Souza following the victory. "We really executed the new formation well and pulled out the win."

The match was scoreless at the 23' mark. That's when Souza dribbled down the sideline and fed a pass to freshman Mariah Jackson, who was able to alter the direction by tipping the ball into the goal. It was Jackson's first shot of the afternoon.

The Pack went into the half leading by a goal, and picked up right where it left off at the 51' mark when seniors Mackenzie Robinson and Angel Meriwether connected to add to Nevada's lead. Robinson sent a deep cross to Meriwether, who was able to chip the ball past Tiger goalkeeper Regan Heslop to make Nevada's lead 2-0.

Souza put the game out of reach in the 85th minute when she put a defender on her knees by juking around her and drilling the ball into the back of the net to help the Pack finish the game with a 3-0 margin. Freshman goalkeeper Kendal Stovall posted a shutout in her first collegiate start, playing the full 90 minutes and making four saves.

Nevada outshot the Tigers 12-8 on the afternoon, while Pacific boasted two corner kicks to the Pack's one. The Silver & Blue played 20 different players in the exhibition

The Pack's next match will be Aug. 17, when it faces Idaho at the Moana Springs Sports Complex. Admission to the event will be free.
