Khoo earns top 15 as Nevada places ninth at Cowgirl Classic

MARICOPA, Ariz. – The Nevada women's golf team secured a top 10 finish in its final regular season event, the Cowgirl Classic.

The Wolf Pack carded its best team round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 9-over score of 297. In three rounds of play Nevada finished the event at 29-over par and in ninth place in the 20-team field. The Pack's three-round total of 893 marked its best finish in four tournaments. With the conference championship looming, the Pack finished this event ahead of fellow Mountain West member Boise State and was one shot behind tournament host Wyoming.

In Tuesday's final round Nevada was led by senior Jordan Keyser, who tied her season low with an even par round of 72. Keyser played a balanced round of golf, making two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars. Her even par round helped her jump 13 spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 34th at 7-over par.

It was fellow senior Celyn Khoo however who posted the best individual finish for the Wolf Pack. Khoo earned her fifth top 15 finish of the season, and fourth in her last five events, after tying for 13th place in the 111-player field. During her final round Khoo drained three birdies on the front nine to card a 1-over 73 and finished the tournament at 2-over par.

Like Keyser sophomore Katy Rutherford also tied her season best round on Tuesday, turning in a 1-over 73. Rutherford's 73 was her best performance of the event and helped her move 15 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 65th. Junior Chaithra Katamneni and sophomore Jenny Krause struggled a bit in their final rounds, carding an 80 and 79, respectively. Katamneni finished in a tie for 43rd while Krause tied for 80th.

Sacramento State dominated the team side and won the event at 10-under par, 22 shots better than runner-up New Mexico State. The Hornets were the only team to finish under par. Sacramento State's Sofie Babic used a final round 69 to capture the individual title at 5-under par, three strokes ahead of the three runner-up finishers.

Nevada will look to capture its first Mountain West Championship April 16-18 at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
