Geil earns Mountain West Pitcher of the Week honors

RENO, Nev. – After helping lead the Nevada softball team to its third series win of the season, junior Amanda Geil has been named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week the conference announced Tuesday. The honor marks the first of Geil's career and third conference weekly accolade for a Wolf Pack player this season, as Nevada has now received a weekly honor from the conference in three of the past four weeks.

In Nevada's series win over San Diego State, the Auburn, California native put together some of the best performances of her career, where she tossed two complete games, earned the first save of her career and posted a dominant 0.50 ERA. Over the course of her 14.0 innings of work, Geil surrendered just one extra-base hit and one earned run, while striking out a career-high six batters in the rubber match win over the Aztecs.

The first game of series saw Geil come out of the bullpen and enter the game in a tough situation with the bases-loaded and nobody out in the eighth inning. With the Pack holding a two-run lead, Geil immediately induced a groundball that resulted in a double play and followed that with another ground ball to seal the series-opening win for Nevada.

Saturday's matchup saw Geil flash the leather in the field, posting a career-best three assists in the contest. In Sunday's contest, Geil allowed no earned runs in her seven innings of work, where she kept nearly the entire Aztec lineup in check, holding SDSU's two through nine hitters to a .087 (2-for-23) batting average.

Fans have the opportunity to see Geil and the Wolf Pack in action this weekend when Nevada hosts Boise State April 20-22 for a three-game series at Hixson Park.
