RENO, Nev. – The Nevada women's tennis team (2-3) was nearly unstoppable at UC Riverside (1-8) on Thursday, defeating the Highlanders 7-0. Freshman Lili Fekete clinched the victory for the Wolf Pack on court No. 5.
The afternoon started with seniors Claudia Herrero and Blaga Delic increasing their record to 5-0 in doubles after defeating Lauren Wolfe and Tamilla Vaksman 6-2. The tandem was ranked as the No. 52 doubles team in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association earlier this week.
Freshmen Anastaysha Gorbacheva and Maria Tatarnikova downed Tracy Van and Natalie Penner 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for the Wolf Pack. Nevada is 6-8 in doubles play this spring.
Herrero increased her record to 5-0 on court No. 1 in dual play by opening singles play with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory over Karla Dulay. Freshman Melissa Huchet continued her excellent freshman campaign by defeating Chloe Pham 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 on court No. 4 to give Nevada a 3-0 lead.
Fekete sealed the Pack's second victory of the season by defeating Wolfe 6-3, 6-4 on court No. 5. The freshman is now 3-2 in dual play with wins coming on courts No. 5 and 6.
The afternoon ended with the Pack sweeping the rest of the singles matches, as Delic, Tatarnikova and Adriana Gergelyova all earned victories on the day. Delic earned her first victory of the season on court No. 2.
Nevada will be back in action tomorrow at Loyola Marymount, where a livestream and live stats will be available. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
