Nevada returns to the pool at the Phill Hansel Invitational

The Pack travels to Houston after a three week hiatus

RENO, Nev. - The Nevada swim team makes its way to Houston, Texas to compete in the annual Phill Hansel Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston. Competition is set to begin on Friday, Nov. 16 at 8 a.m. PT, starting with the 200 free relay prelims.

The Pack is coming off a three week break from which they have not competed since Oct 27 against Fresno State. Currently, Nevada is 4-0 on the year and 3-0 in dual meets with back-to-back wins over UC Davis and Fresno State in commanding fashion. The Pack outscored UC Davis, 187-113 and broke several facility records before turning around and beating Mountain West foe, Fresno State, 182-112.

Following the performance at both meets, the conference honored junior Andressa Cholodovskis as the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week and Toma Shmitova as the Mountain West Diver of the Week for the week of Oct. 30.

The Phill Hansel Invitational will see 12 teams in total, 11 swim teams, compete in a championship-style meet over three days. Teams in attendance are: Rice, Air Force, Tulane, Colorado State, New Mexico, Vanderbilt, Northern Colorado, Washington State, Incarnate Word and host team Houston. North Texas is also in attendance but will only be competing in the diving events; Nevada is only competing in the swim events.

Looking at the field, 11 of the 12 teams in attendance sent at least one athlete to the 2018 NCAA Championships with the Pack scoring 33 points. Houston has won this invitational the past two years and posted over 1700 points last season to take the title.

Nevada has previously competed against both New Mexico and Washington State this year. The Pack and the Lobos met at the Pacific Invite where Nevada scored 845.5 points to take the meet. The Cougs and the Pack met in San Diego when they took on San Diego State. Nevada placed second with 142 points and Washington State came in third with 134.

This meet will span over three days, Nov. 16-18 with live result coverage here. Friday and Saturday preliminaries will start at 8 a.m. PT with finals beginning at 4 p.m. PT. On Sunday, prelims will begin at 8 a.m. PT but finals start at 1 p.m. PT.

Following this meet, Nevada will travel to Boise, Idaho for a dual meet with Boise State on Dec. 5, before taking a short break.
