RENO, Nev. – After wrapping up its final tournament of the season two weeks ago at Long Beach State, the Nevada women's tennis team will compete in its first two dual matches of the spring this season at Cal Poly (0-1) on Friday and at Sacramento State (1-2) this Saturday.
Heading into this weekend, the Wolf Pack has been led in tournament play by senior Claudia Herrero and freshman Melissa Huchet. Herrero finished 9-7 in tournament play, including participating in the Oracle ITA Masters where she advanced to the semifinals in the consolation bracket and the All-American Championships where she finished 1-1. Huchet finished 6-3 in three tournaments, including starting 5-0 and winning the ITA White Singles bracket.
In doubles, the Pack finished tournament play with a 12-12 record as a team. Senior Blaga Delic finished tournament play at 7-3, including going 3-0 with freshman Lili Fekete at the Cal Invitational to win the ITA White Doubles bracket.
Nevada's first opponent will be Cal Poly, who faces the Pack with an 0-1 record after falling to Loyola Marymount last Sunday. The Mustangs boast a young roster, with more than half of their players being underclassmen.
The Pack's second and final match of the weekend will be at the 1-2 Sacramento State Hornets, who earned their lone victory of the season at North Dakota. Last season, Nevada topped the Hornets on the road 4-3 and will have to face them again on the road in 2018.
