Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A 5-2 victory over the University of California, Riverside (1-2) moved the Nevada men's tennis team to 2-0 in dual matches this season. The Wolf Pack cruised to victory after winning the doubles point and four of the six singles matches.
"We had a good week of training," said head coach
Sylvain Malroux. "We saw some good things over the past two matches and some challenges that we will work on. Overall, it's nice to compete again and always good to win!"
Winning is exactly what the Pack did, starting with the doubles competition where it clinched in the first two matches. On court No. 1, sophomores
Kostya Nesterenko and
Julien Evrard earned a decisive 6-3 victory over Benjamin Kilchherr and Pawel Jankowiak. Senior
Robert Margitfalvi and freshman
Jeremy Merville secured the doubles point for the Pack on court No. 3 after defeating Anderson Ju and Nabil Abdallah 7-6 (7-4).
Nesterenko and Evrard continued their big day into singles play, where their victories gave Nevada a 3-0 lead. Nesterenko defeated Kyle McCann 6-2, 6-1 on court No. 1 and Evrard was victorious over Benjamin Kilchherr on court No. 2 by a score of 7-5, 6-2.
Augustin Delahodde fell on court No. 6, which made the score 3-1 in favor of the Pack. Freshman
Jeremy Merville, competing on court No. 3, earned a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 victory over Pawel Jankowiak to clinch the match for the Pack.
"It is also nice to see our freshman winning his first collegiate match at the No. 3 position," said Malroux on Merville's big win. "We also saw some great tennis from Julien and Kostya, as well as a great fight from
Peter O'Donovan."
O'Donovan's match went down to the wire in the third set, but pulled out the 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 13-11 win to give Nevada the 5-2 victory. The Pack will be back in action vs Holy Names on February 3.
